classroom career fair
Grade: 1-2
Allocated time: 1 hour
Objective: Students will be able to dress up as their future career choice and present their choice to the class.
Standard: E.4.12 Give examples of important contributions made by Wisconsin citizens, United States citizens, and world citizens
Materials:
1. Student outfits (if not available at home)
Prior Knowledge: Students need to know about a variety of careers.
Procedure:
1. The students will be given the assignment for homework to come into class dressed up as their future career choice.
2. The students, dressed up in their outfits, will talk to the class about their career as if it were a career day. They can each share what they had to do to become that career, what they do in that job, and share a story from the job.
3. Students can walk around the class, role playing with each other as their chosen career choices.
Assessment:
The costumes the students bring in and their presentation of their chosen career path to the class.
Adaptations: If a child has difficulty with public speaking they can film their speech before class and then share it with the class on that day.
Extensions: Students could keep a journal of themselves through the day and the events that they go through. They could create a booklet with this information entitled “A Day in the Life of a ______” (career choice).
