Summary:
One of the most popular and child-friendly Bible stories gets a lush, whimsical, and inviting treatment by artist Naoko Stoop. Stoop painted her jewel-toned illustrations entirely on planks of wood specifically handpicked for their unique character. Her charming pictures capture the sweet spirit of the animals on the ark, as well as Noah's gentle stewardship. This is truly a gorgeous book for parents and children to share--and a favorite they will want to read again and again.
Would you use this book?: Maybe
I liked this book because it was child-friendly. Children are able to understand the bible stories and the pictures captured the sweet spirit of the animals on the ark, as well as Noah. I would use this book because I marked all “Yes’s” and it did a great job avoiding all stereotypes and was culturally appropriate.

Title: At Your Baptism
Author: Carrie Steenwyk and John D. Witvliet
Illustrator: Linda Saport
ISBN #: 978-0-8028-5381-3
Copyright date: 2011
Summary:
Through the sacrament of baptism, God shows his love — the same love that claims us for his family that sent Christ into the world to die for us; the same love that we show to one another. Using simple, clear text adapted from the French Reformed Church liturgy and paired with vibrant illustrations and straightforward explanations on every page, At Your Baptism provides the perfect way to show young children how baptism is a sign of God's love and promises.
Would you use this book?: Maybe
I liked the book because it talked about baptism in a simple way for a child to understand. It had zero stereotypes and the pictures avoided tokenism. Since so many children get baptized, it a great introductory to what baptism is all about. It has accurate information and I would definitely put this type of book on my bookshelf but I would not read it aloud to the class.

Title: Field of Peace
Author: Joyce Meyer
Illustrator: Mary Sullivan
ISBN #: 978-0-310-72318-9
Copyright date: 2012
Summary: The baseball championship at Everyday Zoo is underway, but star pitcher, the giraffe, isn’t exactly on his game. He feels terrible about something he did. He must fix things, make everything okay with a friend again, and find the peace that comes from doing right before God.
Would you use this book?: Yes
The book checks off all “yes”, the book really isn’t religious based. It talks briefly about finding peace in our lives by making decisions that please God, but really just focuses on playing baseball. It’s a book based on animals. It had a good moral.

Title: Heaven is for Real for kids
Author: Colton Burpo
Illustrator: Wilson Ong
ISBN #: 978-0849946158
Copyright date: 2011
Summary: During an emergency operation at three years old, Colton Burpo had an experience that few people have in this life: he was able to see Jesus and visit heaven. As he began to share with his parents, they were certain he could not know such biblically accurate details about heaven without having witnessed them firsthand. Colton shares his experience with children so they can have the comfort, joy, and wonder of knowing that heaven is indeed for real and that Jesus really, really loves them.
Would you use this book?: Yes
I would definitely use this book but only after first talking to parents about the message. It is told in a child’s perspective, which makes this story great for young children. It doesn’t go in depth about heaven, but gives a brief introduction of what it is like. It isn’t complicated to understand and it is a great book to help children understand heaven.
